It is this business philosophy that has seen Angelique Smith thrive as an entrepreneur for nearly two decades.

More about Angelique and Event Synthesis ...
After matriculating, Angelique started her professional career at a local fast food chain, where she swiftly worked her way up from an entry-level position to running the operations department. However, as a competitive ballroom, Latin American and freestyle dancer from a young age, she had a dream of owning her own dance studio. Her journey as an entrepreneur started when she opened a studio with a partner in 2001.
Angelique has excelled at being flexible and identifying opportunities as they arise – key traits of a successful entrepreneur. She is also dedicated to uplifting others and helping them realise their potential.
As her dance studio kept growing, it called for her to coordinate more and more events. From this, her event management company was born.
Event Synthesis was one of the first to fill the gap in the niche market for dance competition management specialists. Angelique has used her experience of more than two decades in the dance industry to build a reputation for professional and well-organised events. Thanks to its impeccable reputation, her company now manages some of the country’s largest sporting competitions.
Event Synthesis also coordinates weddings, golf days, parties, functions, corporate events and Health and Safety Files as Angelique is also a Health and Safety Officer.
Events enable Angelique to provide temporary employment and skills development opportunities to varying numbers of people, depending on the scale of the event.
Angelique has achieved some of her greatest successes in 2019. She was nominated for the National Small Business Awards, won the bronze award in the Micro Business division at the FNB ROCCI Business of the year awards as well as being awarded as a Top 40 woman in MICE. Angelique has also recently been nominated as a member of the PCO Alliance Network which is an elite group of PCO’s in JHB.
Her greatest motivation is making her family proud. She is a dedicated wife and mother of two girls, aged 14 months and seven years. She credits the support of her husband, Adrian, both professionally and in their family life, as invaluable to her success.

I am Ayanda Mafuleka, and I am 37 years of age. I hail from the most beautiful province of KwaZulu-Natal; I was born in Umlazi, south of Durban.
"I am very passionate about woman empowerment. I am where I am today because of the women who believed and invested in me. I surround myself with women who pushed me to achieve and I spent time reading about other women who are ‘woman of substance and stature’ in their own right like Sindi Mabaso-Koyana, Lesego Sennelo, Nonkululeko Gobodo, Nonhlanhla Khumalo, and Dr Judy Dlamini. I always strive to do the same for other women who come after me. I mentor young and old women in and outside my team as much as I can.
“What the mind conceives, it can achieve”
After I matriculated and I studied for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting at UKZN. After graduating with a BCom degree, I started my career in Finance working at Transnet, for various business units namely, Spoornet as Professional Officer, National Ports Authority as Finance Reporting Manager, and Transtel, as Accounts Manager. I then joined Sunflower Housing Company, social housing company of Anglo Platinum as Management Accountant where I was responsible for establishing the finance department. I then joined the South African Post Office, as Senior Financial Manager. Whilst working I was studying towards BCom Honours (CTA) to pursue a qualification in Chartered Accountancy (CA). I resigned to join the National Treasury to complete CA articles and I qualified in 2012. After qualifying as a CA, I worked for the Department of Home Affairs as Director: Finance, after 3 years joined Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo and GM: Finance. In 2014 at a tender age of 34 years I was appointed by the National Credit Regulator (NCR) as CFO. With effect from 1 February 2018 I was appointed as the CFO of African Exploration, Mining and Finance Corporation SOC Ltd.
Throughout my career of 15 years in finance, I have always strived to leave a mark and I have left legacies of clean audits, sound financial management of turning around an entity from a deficit to a surplus position, put in effective processes and controls as well as governance structures. I always lead A-teams and I make sure that I excel in my area of expertise.
During my tenure at the NCR I started quarterly ‘Tea with the CFO’ sessions where we tackle women issues enjoy empowering my colleagues in financial and budget related issues. I still keep up to date and contribute in academia through marking assignments for a particular university. Throughout the years I have been associated with organisations such as African Women Chartered Accountants, BMF and ABASA.
Outside of work, I have been involved in youth related activities in church, where I am part of the team that plans Annual Career Expo for young people in the Vaal. I have been a volunteer for SAICA to observe municipality elections in 2016. I have been part of the women movement called ‘’Women Who Stand in Prayer’’ where we meet monthly in Alberton to empower and impart wisdom in the spiritual matters.
I am a mother of three (3) children, 2 girls and a boy. I am a child of God before anything."
Dressing up and making people look and feel good is my thing .
The joy of the Lord is my strength...
I live by this saying from Mahatma Gandhi ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.’
My women empowerment programme includes motivational speaking, dance, yoga and self-defence for beginners. The motivational speaking includes affirmations which we can use to keep reminding ourselves of how appreciative we should be of all the wonderful aspects of our lives. The dance includes 2-step, Indian and belly dance. I have been dancing since the age of 8 so it is in my blood and I love to share the joy and happiness it brings to me. The self defence is the basics on the different manoeuvres a woman can use to defend herself during an attack.
As I began my journey in Miss Earth South Africa I realized my calling was to help other women achieve greatness.
