I am Ayanda Mafuleka, and I am 37 years of age. I hail from the most beautiful province of KwaZulu-Natal; I was born in Umlazi, south of Durban.
"I am very passionate about woman empowerment. I am where I am today because of the women who believed and invested in me. I surround myself with women who pushed me to achieve and I spent time reading about other women who are ‘woman of substance and stature’ in their own right like Sindi Mabaso-Koyana, Lesego Sennelo, Nonkululeko Gobodo, Nonhlanhla Khumalo, and Dr Judy Dlamini. I always strive to do the same for other women who come after me. I mentor young and old women in and outside my team as much as I can.
“What the mind conceives, it can achieve”
After I matriculated and I studied for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Accounting at UKZN. After graduating with a BCom degree, I started my career in Finance working at Transnet, for various business units namely, Spoornet as Professional Officer, National Ports Authority as Finance Reporting Manager, and Transtel, as Accounts Manager. I then joined Sunflower Housing Company, social housing company of Anglo Platinum as Management Accountant where I was responsible for establishing the finance department. I then joined the South African Post Office, as Senior Financial Manager. Whilst working I was studying towards BCom Honours (CTA) to pursue a qualification in Chartered Accountancy (CA). I resigned to join the National Treasury to complete CA articles and I qualified in 2012. After qualifying as a CA, I worked for the Department of Home Affairs as Director: Finance, after 3 years joined Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo and GM: Finance. In 2014 at a tender age of 34 years I was appointed by the National Credit Regulator (NCR) as CFO. With effect from 1 February 2018 I was appointed as the CFO of African Exploration, Mining and Finance Corporation SOC Ltd.
Throughout my career of 15 years in finance, I have always strived to leave a mark and I have left legacies of clean audits, sound financial management of turning around an entity from a deficit to a surplus position, put in effective processes and controls as well as governance structures. I always lead A-teams and I make sure that I excel in my area of expertise.
During my tenure at the NCR I started quarterly ‘Tea with the CFO’ sessions where we tackle women issues enjoy empowering my colleagues in financial and budget related issues. I still keep up to date and contribute in academia through marking assignments for a particular university. Throughout the years I have been associated with organisations such as African Women Chartered Accountants, BMF and ABASA.
Outside of work, I have been involved in youth related activities in church, where I am part of the team that plans Annual Career Expo for young people in the Vaal. I have been a volunteer for SAICA to observe municipality elections in 2016. I have been part of the women movement called ‘’Women Who Stand in Prayer’’ where we meet monthly in Alberton to empower and impart wisdom in the spiritual matters.
I am a mother of three (3) children, 2 girls and a boy. I am a child of God before anything."
I live by this saying from Mahatma Gandhi ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.’
My women empowerment programme includes motivational speaking, dance, yoga and self-defence for beginners. The motivational speaking includes affirmations which we can use to keep reminding ourselves of how appreciative we should be of all the wonderful aspects of our lives. The dance includes 2-step, Indian and belly dance. I have been dancing since the age of 8 so it is in my blood and I love to share the joy and happiness it brings to me. The self defence is the basics on the different manoeuvres a woman can use to defend herself during an attack.
As I began my journey in Miss Earth South Africa I realized my calling was to help other women achieve greatness.

About Brenda and her company:
My father started his accounting business when I was well in my teens. As I was older and more mature I realized the challenges that came with it but also experienced the beauty of running it. I realized the significance it had even on us, his family. People associated us with the success that came with my father, even when we were not involved in the running of the business. Out of this experience, I also wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, be the last hope to those that would have thrown in the towel. Starting my own business also meant having the flexibility to be there for my children, to see them grow and guide them through to be responsible adults.
The culture at university and during my articles associated success with powerful careers. Starting a business was associated with risks and unrewarded hard work as well as frustrations. During that time starting my own business was just an idea more than a reality. I also realized that in the accounting and auditing field, flexibility is merely a dream. The long hours and challenges meant that the difference and impact I always wanted would not be achieved in that setup. My friend and co-business partner Mollen Mukuze sparked my idea and challenged us to start a business. This revived my dream. It was a scary experience but I jumped into it as my inner goal was bigger than anything. Thank God I listened to my inner heart . At that point I didn’t have much to lose, being someone who had just finished articles and I didn’t have job commitments. I decided that the only time to build my business was then...
Brendmo Incorporated was born after writing our final qualifying exams in 2014 with only articles to show for experience. Looking back, that was a brave and bold decision we took. With no managerial or high corporate experience it was merely faith that drove us. God blessed us exceedingly as we both passed and qualified as CAs when Brendmo Incorporated was already in the initiation stage. I came to realize that it’s not the have’s that drive but rather the determination and zeal to have. l have since grown my business as well as an individual.
“I am grateful to family and friends for making me realise my dream. I am thankful to WOS for creating a platform to grow our business to greater heights and make a significance to people’s lives. Limitations do not have control over the greatness in us. To those who truly believe in themselves, anything is possible.”
I am an advocate for women empowerment, as well as supporting local brands and products, especially SMME’s.
I am sole proprietor of MADAMES, Nail and Beauty Salon.
Academy of Learning – Executive Secretarial and Public Relations Diploma 1993-1995
Nail Artistry – Beauty Diploma 1995-1996
Sales Course and Additional Courses 1996-1998
Nails 2000; Hair by Pierre; Skin and Body Dimensions; RUB 2006-2013
I have had the privilege of getting work experience overseas in different spheres of my career and others that challenged me and highly improved my skills. I have also had the opportunity to work with a charity close to my heart, helping abandoned children.
My purpose on earth is to inspire and motivate people by sharing my skills, knowledge and experience through Training and Facilitating.
I value Passion, Honesty and Challenges.
My legacy is to be instrumental in the discovery of potential and growth in others.
I always refer to my surname as "HAVE AND SHARE” which sums up how I manage my personal, spiritual and business life.
I am a motivated and driven person with a humble and eager-to-learn spirit. Combined with my strong personality, my driven positivity and perseverance to succeed, I take on new challenges as part of my constant growth process.
I have 10 years of experience in the field of training, coaching and counselling as an Educational Kinesiologist, Facilitator and Trainer, where I have touched the lives of individuals, groups, scholars, educators and corporate members on all levels of management.
I am actively involved in facilitating career planning at high school level, in co-operation with Brainwave Careers (NGO), in rural, township and city schools. We connect with boys and girls from grades 8-12 by informing and assisting them in planning their future careers.
My involvement in Corporate Social Investment projects in rural and township areas over the past 10 years taught me how easily people fall trap to the “GIVE-ME” spirit: where they always receive but never learn to fish. I experienced firsthand how it disempowers them and how they lose hope in becoming self sufficient. This is where the “ROOIBOS” miracle started making sense. I promote and train this empowering and sustaining business opportunity with use and marketing of healthy products.
I believe that the key to success lies in a balanced life.
