On the 15th September 2018 48 ladies completed the Woman of Stature 5 Pillars of Empowerment Program sponsored by Nedbank. This is the amazing testimony of a small group of these ladies who are venturing on an exhibition of a lifetime..
“It was an accolade to be accepted onto the Woman of Stature 5 Pillars programme sponsored by Nedbank. The programme brought together strong, dynamic women with a shared passion for the Entrepreneurial journey.
We felt elated and accomplished that we had fulfilled a shared commitment to our own development not only as entrepreneurs, but also as women.”
Some saw the programme as much more than an opportunity for learning, but also an opportunity to form lifelong friendships and share other abiding life passions. Seema Pillay, Kabira Dewan and Asanda Gcoyi discovered this when they heard the account of a courageous journey completed by their fellow colleague Angela Yeung. Angela embraced a challenge to do the Trek 4 Mandela Challenge 2018 and summit Mount Kilimanjaro on Mandela Day. This is a one of a kind challenge, collaborative initiative, supported by the Imbumba and Nelson Mandela Foundation. It is one of 3 holistic programs by Imbumba Foundation that helps the girl child shape her future. The initiative is aimed at creating awareness of the plight facing young school going girls during menstruation who can’t afford to buy sanitary pads. The funds are aimed at plugging this gap and enable young girls to continue their education without interruption and to affirm their dignity.
This resonated strongly with the ladies and inspired them to embark on the Trek to Mount Kilimanjaro from 13 to 20 July 2019. The summit date being 18 July to honor the legacy of Madiba’s birthday. The significance of the 2019 expedition is that it forms part of the Centenary Celebration to honor Madiba’s legacy with the following specific goals:
100 Climbers will attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in 2019
100 Bursaries to support 100 poor girls from Caring4Girls’ schools.
Adopt 100 schools per province to benefit from the project.
To embark on the expedition each lady will need to raise R85,000. This is a huge task but with the support of Aarifa Ellemdeen, a fellow graduate and CEO of Chique Events, who will be assisting the ladies with various fundraising initiatives, they hope to reach this goal.
